FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is it possible to hypnotise myself?

Yes, it only takes a little practice. It is similar to meditation and is achieved by focusing the attention. An exercise is available on the Hypnosis page or you could purchase the CD.

What does it feel like to be Hypnotised?

There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling. Many people who have been hypnotised say something like, “it didn’t work for me, I never went under.” The fact is, although hypnosis is very pleasant, relaxing and a rather lethargic state, you are, in fact, in a heightened state of awareness, most definitely not asleep.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

With very few exceptions, everyone can enjoy this very pleasant and relaxed state of mind and body. Some subjects can enter very deep states quite quickly, while others achieve only light trance states. For therapeutic purposes only a light trance is necessary.

Will I loose control?

No, the subject remains in control the whole time and can leave the state at will.

How many sessions would I need?

It is not possible to give an exact answer to this question as everyone is an individual and problems vary. Some simple problems can be dealt with in a single session.
Certain phobias, for example, can be dealt with in just an hour or less. Some inner fears and conflicts can be deep rooted and may take longer to resolve. National Council members are committed to resolving problems in the least number of sessions possible. So choose your therapist carefully.

I’ve heard about false memories, what are they?

Not all therapy is involved in recovering old memories and hypnosis is not a truth drug. The subconscious can produce some amazing fantasies. Sometimes, the mind can turn early fantasies into, what may seem like, real memories, although the vast majority of subjects detect the difference. For example, you know the difference between a dream and reality. Qualified and registered, practitioners do not lead their clients into areas unrelated to their problem. Choose a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy.

Is there anything that hypnosis can’t deal with?

Hypnotherapy is not a cure all. It is worth exploring if you feel that an inner conflict may be responsible for your problem. The very worse thing that can happen is that you waste an hour of your time and a few pounds of your hard earned cash. On the other hand it could change your life forever and leave you feeling in control and free from old fears, worries and anxieties.
